Hello how are you all?
In these strange times where we find ourselves in our homes a lot, It’s given us time to reconsider our four walls. Our online paint sales have been fantastic and we are so grateful for this. So for that reason we are dedicating this our third blog to ‘colour’.
As premier stockists for Farrow & Ball we absolutely love paint and being involved in your home décor transformations. We know too well it can be really hard to choose a colour and make those decisions, especially when it’s a big colour change. We have so many people at the shop admiring and lusting over our coloured walls and wanting to recreate this look at home but have the fear of ‘drastic change’. So how do we make the decision when it comes to colour? We decided this would be an ideal time to bring to you a new feature we are going to do from time to time on our blog called ‘five questions with’ where we will interview someone with a enviable room or home. (if you’d love to be featured here please contact us.
This months first interview is with the very popular Lissi from @oxfordone who is most definitely not afraid of colour in the home and has a very desirable style.
What inspired you to start being colourful and daring in your home?
When we first moved in, we decorated everywhere grey. It was our first house and we thought that's what grown-ups did! It took a few years before we realised that grey wasn't very 'us', we're not renting any more and we can do whatever we like to it whether other people like it or not and that was when things started to get more colourful!
Where did you decorate first?
The first colourful change came when we renovated the back of the house making the kitchen, dining room and living room open plan. We painted everywhere white first of all and began to add much more colourful soft furnishings, accessories and artwork. This was around the time I started using Instagram for inspiration and discovered a whole world of interiors fans out there.
In your opinion do you think being surrounded by colour creates a shift in your happiness or feelings?
I absolutely believe that our surroundings impact our happiness and wellbeing. For some, it's having a neutral, calm space, for me colour makes me happy, it makes me smile as soon as I walk through the door and I love seeing things in my house that I've personally chosen and collected over time making my house my home.
Which is your favourite room in your house and why?
Choosing a favourite room is really hard! In terms of where we spend most of our time, it's an open plan space at the back of the house which has got two sets of bifolds looking out over the garden towards fields but in terms of decor, I love our bathroom, they're not everyone's cup of tea but they most definitely are mine and I'm proud that we have done all the work ourselves to achieve the look we wanted.
If you could pick one key item you have what would it be?
I would probably say artwork. It can transform the space and feel of your room, from smaller pieces making up gallery walls to statement art, it can move around the house and you can create whole room schemes from one inspiring piece.
